Reid's Palace
A clifftop hotel above Funchal Bay, open since 1891, set in ten acres of subtropical gardens with the Atlantic on three sides. The most established address in Madeira, and still the one everything else is measured against.
Why we chose it
Some properties earn their reputation and then coast on it. Reid's has held the same position for over a century because the standard has not moved. Churchill stayed here. So did Shaw. For a leadership team, arriving somewhere with that kind of continuity sets a tone before the first session begins.
The gardens
Ten acres running down the cliff to the sea, planted over more than a century. Sessions move outdoors easily here, and the grounds are large enough that a group can disperse and reconvene without ever leaving the property. Most of our work at Reid's happens outside.
The terrace
Afternoon tea on the terrace above the Atlantic is an institution in Madeira, and it is the kind of unhurried hour that produces more honesty than a structured session usually manages. We build it into the programme deliberately.
The setting
Funchal is twenty minutes below. The airport is a thirty-minute drive with direct connections from London and most European hubs. Madeira sits at roughly twenty degrees year round, which makes this one of the few locations in our portfolio that works in January as well as it does in June.
