Olea All Suite
A tropical-modernist property on a hillside above Tsilivi in Zakynthos, where the suites appear to float on a 4,000-square-metre pool designed to look like a lake. Concrete, oak, and whitewash, built by Block722 Architects. A member of Design Hotels.
Why we chose it
Zakynthos has a reputation for the wrong kind of tourism, and Olea is the answer to it. Set on a quiet hillside among olive groves on the northeast coast, it is adults-only and deliberately still - the antithesis of the island's party strip an hour south. For a leadership team, that separation from the noise is the whole point.
The design
The architecture is the property's signature. Suites are strung along streams that feed a lake-like pool at the centre, so the buildings read as floating villas. Natural materials throughout - rustic oak, bamboo, rattan, sand-coloured plaster - everything low and horizontal and in conversation with the landscape. It is one of the most considered designs in the portfolio.
The table
Three restaurants across three registers - a hilltop gourmet room with the island's best sunset, poolside dining with your feet almost in the water, and the main thatched-roof restaurant. Long dinners here, as everywhere in our work, are where the useful conversations land.
The pace
A dramatic spa with hammam, a yoga pavilion, and a pool you can swim across the whole property. Sessions run in the morning, the water and the spa take the afternoon heat, and the evenings open out. Private yacht cruises around the island can be arranged for a day off the property.
The practical detail
Zakynthos airport is twenty minutes away, with direct summer flights from the UK and across Europe. The hotel is seasonal - roughly May through October - and quietest in the shoulder months either side of high summer.
