Nomade Holbox
A barefoot, adults-only property on the western end of car-free Isla Holbox, off the Yucatán coast. Oceanfront suites and elevated treehouse rooms woven from wood and straw, set on a beach where the sunsets and the pods of dolphins are the main event.
Why we chose it
Holbox is genuinely off the map. No cars, no paved roads, and an island rhythm that slows a group down before they have unpacked. Nômade sits at the quiet western end near Punta Cocos, away from the small town, on one of the best stretches of beach in Mexico. For a leadership team it is the deliberate opposite of a resort.
The design
Rooms range from oceanfront and Moon Temple suites with canvas walls to elevated treehouses built from latticed wood and straw that resemble elaborate nests. Everything is made from local materials, single-use plastic is gone, solar covers part of the energy, and the food comes from an on-site garden and a regenerative farm on the mainland. The sustainability is structural, not stated.
The table
Dining is unfussy and mostly barefoot. CHI'I'BAL serves Nikkei cuisine - the Peruvian-Japanese fusion — under vaulted arches woven from natural materials, and you can eat at a long shared table or a lantern-lit one on the sand. Long dinners on the beach are where the useful conversations land.
The pace
Two pools, beachfront daybeds, and a wellness programme that runs from yoga to energy work for those who want it. The island itself is the activity - bikes, a golf cart, and long empty stretches of beach. We build one day around the water, often out among the dolphins.
The practical detail
Getting here is part of the point. From Cancún airport it is a two-and-a-half-hour drive to Chiquilá, then a 30-minute ferry, then a 15-minute buggy ride once on the island. Private boats and a direct helicopter from Cancún can be arranged. Adults only, and the property works best November through April, outside hurricane season.
