La Bastide de Gordes
A 16th-century bastide built into the cliff face at Gordes, with the Luberon valley falling away below it. Forty rooms, terraced gardens cut into the rock, and a view that has drawn people to this village for four hundred years.
Why we chose it
Gordes is one of the most photographed villages in France, and the Bastide sits at the top of it. Sessions happen on terraces looking out over the valley - teams find it difficult to stay small-minded with that in front of them.
The building
Originally a noble residence, restored rather than reinvented. Stone vaults, original proportions, and interiors that do not fight the architecture. It feels older than it looks in photographs.
The pace
Provence in the shoulder seasons is quiet. Long lunches, an afternoon in the valley, and sessions that run late because nobody is in a hurry to be anywhere else.
The setting
Twenty-five minutes from Avignon TGV, ninety minutes from Marseille airport. Close enough to be practical for a European leadership team, far enough that nobody is tempted to go back to the office.
