Château de Sacy
A slate-roofed 19th-century mansion on a hilltop in the village of Sacy, surrounded on all sides by the vineyards of the Montagne de Reims. Twelve individually designed rooms, a gastronomic restaurant with 360-degree views over the vines, and one of the great wine regions of the world at the door.
Why we chose it
Twelve rooms means a leadership team can take the entire château. That kind of complete privacy is rare, and here it comes wrapped in the Champagne vineyards with Reims twenty minutes away. For a group that wants a small, contained base with the whole property to themselves, few places in France do it better.
The setting
The château sits like an island above the vines, restored from a near-ruin by designer Marie-Christine Mecoen. Each room carries its own character and name - historical, individual, no two alike — with draped beds, antique pieces, and marble bathrooms. The Le Roi Soleil suite has floor-to-ceiling windows onto the vineyards.
The table
The restaurant sits on the first floor with a 360-degree view over the vines, cooking seasonal local produce paired with a cellar of Champagnes both famous and obscure. This is the heart of the place - long dinners here, with the region's wine and the light moving across the vineyards, are where the useful conversations settle.
The pace
A spa with two outdoor barrel hot tubs looking over the countryside, a sauna, and treatment rooms. Bikes and e-bikes for the vineyards, and a marked trail up the hill behind the château for even better views. The great Champagne houses and smaller growers are all within reach for tastings.
The practical detail
Champagne is unusually accessible - the TGV from Paris reaches Champagne-Ardenne station in around 45 minutes, ten minutes from the château. Reims is twenty minutes away, Charles de Gaulle roughly ninety. It works spring through autumn, with the vineyards at their best either side of the September harvest.
